Happy Independence Day Barbados!!!

Barbados has been independent for the past 50 years but as a country Barbados has existed since 1627 when the first permanent settlers came from England. Barbados, Little England, Bim, home. Congratulations and wishing you the best. I wish I could be there on your special day but you are my home and always in my heart.

New Member Orientation, Global Leadership Training and Food Tasting

BKCLC at the 2016 Brooklyn Marathon!!!

Lions O. Brathwaithe, M. Cephas, Y. Gomez and K. White volunteered at the 2016 NYC Marathon on November 6, 2016. Our shifts started at 6am and finished at around 2pm. This year we received a tote bag and a commemorative pin as a thank you gift for volunteering. Unfortunately Lion Joan could not attend at the last moment but you can see her credentials in the picture above.

It was a hard shift, some volunteers left early but the Lions from District 20K1 did an excellent job. Thank you Lion C. McBride for the banners. Thank you to the District for breakfast. Thank you Hollis Lions Club for maintaining the fluid station over the last twenty years.

I hope next year when we discuss the marathon the entire station will be run by District 20K1 Lions.

Haiti Relief Assistance!!!!

On Saturday November 19, 2016 members from BKCLC assisted members from Metropolis Lions Club to pack six barrels for this cause. Now we need to ship them to Haiti. BKCLC Thanksgiving 2016 Baskets!!!

On Monday November 21, 2016 a few Lions went to Lion President's home to pack the baskets for Thanksgiving. Lion President, Lions K. Fraser, B. Slythe, J. Holder, J. Agard, K. White, Y. Gomez. G. Walton, F. Campbell spend a good part of the day prepping and packing the baskets. This year we packed 19 baskets to feed a total of 73 people 40 adults and 33 children, While a large portion of the meat and staples were donated the club spent $230.10 to purchase onions, potatoes, flour and can vegetables. Lion President's daughter Rochelle (non-Lion) donated the pies for the basket. Each basket had turkey/chicken and ham, Sparkling cider and a pie as well as the macaroni cheese, cranberry sauce and gravy. Each basket included enough staples such as rice, sugar, potatoes , flour, oil to feed each family for at least a week after thanksgiving. We will thank the elected official for the turkey donation separately. BKCLC helped 19 families, thank you BKCLC. Hopefully we can help more families next year.
