2016 20K1 Mid Winter Convention





Yesterday, February 6, 2016 was the annual 20K1 Mid Winter Convention in Douglaston.  It was a packed house with over 300 Lions, Leos and guests in attendance.  Nineteen Lions from BKC attended the Convention: Lions K. White, M. Fraser (President), B. Slythe, L. Holder, C. Layne, H. Goring, J. Prescod, M. Cephas, Y. Gomez, A.Wallace, O. Braithwaithe, L. Haynes, P. Leslie, J. Agard, K. Fraser, A. George, S. Hull, Y. Pitcairn, A. Burton and two Leos Raven and Kourtney.

We all arrived in Douglaston between 6:30 and 8 am depending on our role in the event.  Some of our members are on the District level and arrived early to set up.  Attendees arrived between 8 am adn 9am.  The facility served a continental breakfast between 8am and 9am.

After breakfast we had a remembrance service for those Lions who died the previous year. Teh 20K1 Choir performed.  Lions Fraser, Layne and Gomez are members of the choir.

After the service you had the option of going to seminars or browsing the booths.  The seminars were very informative.  The booths included Affinity, Apple Bank, Teal Walk At the Teal walk table you got the option of donating any amount to choose a vintage pin.

There was a pre-lunch show withe the 20K1 Latina dancers and skit performances  After that we had lunch followed by the program.  Two Lions created the origami swans used as table center pieces.  the youngest Lion at the table was able to claim the center piece.

State of the District: The district raised over $4000 for the Teal Walk, BKCLC contributed $250 towards that amount.  The Diabetes Committee surpassed its goal of $30000 and 20K1 can keep its flagship distinction.  The District is also planning a walk in Queens.  WE lost one club and gained another.  The district hopes to participate in the Chinese New Year celebrations in queens next February since our District is embracing its multiculturalism.

Lion Cephas won 4th place in the District Foundation raffle winning $300.  The event rant long so the candidates for office had 3 minutes for their speeches but the women disregarded the timekeeper.

The event finished at 3:20 pm- 20 minutes later than it should. It was an excellent event.
